The Springs
The Springs is a residential community located on Dutchmans Parkway in Louisville, part of the City of St. Matthews. There are 68 homes in this gated development, along with a Clubhouse, pool and tennis court.
History
The property was originally a 216 acre tract owned by Gilbert R. Russell, who conveyed it to James Southard in 1827. It was sold to James Burks, and the Burks family cemetery can be found in a landscaped area of the parking lot in front of Bed Bath & Beyond in the commercial center to the East of The Springs. The land was the subject of a case before the United States Supreme Court in 1851 in a dispute over a mortgage Eventually, the property came to be known as the "C.C. Moore Farm" and later as Golden Maxim Farm. Up to 100 horses were boarded, trained and bred there at any one time. It was used as a horse farm until sold by Virginia Moore in 1988. The Middle Fork of Beargrass Creek flows along the Northern border of The Springs before emptying into the Ohio River near downtown Louisville.
The Springs community was developed by NTS Development, a Louisville-based development company, in the early 1990s. NTS developed The Springs as a gated community with 72 lots.
